Is there any difference in application between these? Also, are pipe plugs used less often now? After all, pipe blockage is inconvenient to operate and maintain.

During the design process, there is generally not much difference between the plug and the threaded pipe cap for the outlet of the purge valve, and they can basically be used interchangeably. However, for materials that are prone to clogging in the process, highly corrosive materials, and places where the pipes are made of carbon steel and are not discharged frequently, blind flanges should generally be used. :)
There is no difference in the application of plugging and pipe caps! ! ! All to prevent leaks! If the place is basically not open, a blind flange must be installed to prevent leakage! If the discharge needs to be operated frequently, use a pipe cap or plug. However, the strength of the plug is higher, and the cap is sometimes of poor quality and easily broken.

It is generally recommended to use blind flanges for high pressure and hazardous media. Your medium is ammonia, so blind flanges should be used. Wire plugs are used in low pressure, non-hazardous media. Because the plug is more likely to leak than the blind flange, the blind flange is the safest!
