Breather valves are often used on storage tanks in the petrochemical industry. Our company (in the food industry) has installed a vent valve on the flash tank. The pressure at the flash inlet is 12 bar, and the liquid temperature is around 120°C; the flashing takes place at atmospheric pressure. Recently, we have noticed liquid leakage at the steam condensation end of the flash tank. During maintenance, it was found that the seal of the vent valve had been damaged. I wonder if this is directly related to the damage to the vent valve. Thank you all!
The breather valve serves to handle overpressure and maintain pressure. If condensate leaks out, it indicates that there is overpressure. If the breather valve is functioning properly, it will allow air to flow in when overpressure occurs···

Breather valves are primarily used for pressure regulation in flash vaporization systems, and they usually come equipped with a pressure self-regulating mechanism for this purpose; I’m not sure how they are configured where you are.
