I would appreciate guidance from the experts here. What is the difference between a level gauge for a boiler drum and a level gauge for ordinary storage tanks? For example, if the design pressure of the drum is 5.0 MPa and the design temperature is 280 degrees, which type of level gauge would be suitable? What about storage tanks with the same parameters? Level gauges for boiler drum levels are relatively special, as the characteristics of the drum water level are highly complex both from a static and dynamic perspective. Imbalances between steam and water entering and leaving the drum, changes in pressure within the drum, and variations in combustion conditions can all affect the level of water in the drum. Therefore, two to three different measurement methods are usually employed together for measuring the drum water level. Commonly used ones include single- and double-chamber balance containers, electrode-type level gauges, and dual-color level gauges without blind spots. The level gauge for storage tanks is relatively simple; a conventional gauge that meets the design requirements is sufficient.
Thank you for the answer from above; I always thought they were the same. It seems I need to pay more attention when selecting them in the future.
High pressure is the main issue; the densities of water and steam change significantly, and false liquid levels occur.
I believe the biggest difference is that the level gauges used in steam drums must be able to withstand high static pressure, as the pressure in steam drums is generally very high; Ordinary tanks, on the other hand, do not have such pressure restrictions; as long as they meet the requirements of the medium being handled, that’s sufficient.
