It’s also good for us beginners to learn a bit! It would be best to have images for reference! Under what circumstances is interlocking generally necessary? In simple terms, an interlock system is such that when process parameters exceed the allowed limits, the signaling system automatically emits audible and visual signals before an accident occurs, warning operators to take action promptly. If the operating conditions reach a dangerous level, the interlock system immediately takes automatic emergency actions by opening safety valves or shutting off certain pathways, and may even initiate an emergency shutdown if necessary, in order to prevent accidents from occurring or worsening. It is a safety device in the production process.
The interlock system is designed to provide alarms or interlock protection for process parameter excursions in the production process. To ensure safe production, important process variables are selected as signal alarms. When a production accident occurs, emergency measures should be taken to prevent the accident from spreading. Automatic interlock protection devices should be used in situations where operators may not have enough time to respond, or when there is a serious risk to the production process during an accident. However, there are some situations where interlocks are not suitable; for example, in areas where process parameters fluctuate greatly or where measuring instruments frequently fail, interlocks are not appropriate. In chemical production, shutdown accidents caused by broken instruments often occur. It’s best not to include these interlocks, but alarms must be present.
The cascade problem is a relatively difficult aspect in the field of automatic control, as it involves coordination with electrical engineering; if the technical skills are not sufficient, disputes will arise: lol
Good communication with the process and design is necessary.
The key is to understand as much as possible about the manufacturing process and to resolve the interlock issues raised by the process engineers.
