Development of Recycled Lead Technology Abroad Abstract In developed and moderately developed countries, the production of recycled lead metal exceeds that of primary lead metal. The proportion of recycled lead in total production: over 70% in the United States, 78% in Europe, and an average of 50% globally. Our country accounts for only 25.30%, which is below the world average. China’s lead recycling technology is outdated and the recycling processes are inadequate, resulting in severe environmental pollution caused by waste lead. Therefore, understanding and observing the development and current status of foreign recycled lead technologies can provide references for the improvement and advancement of recycled lead smelting technologies in our country. The author of this article provides an introduction and overview of the lead recycling technologies and production practices in the United States and Australia during the 1970s, and in Italy during the 1990s: 1. The Brooklyn lead recycling plant in Italy, which is specialized in processing used lead-acid batteries; its processing capacity is 32,000 tons per year. In this plant, the used batteries are first crushed and mixed, after which they are melted directly in a rotary kiln.
