When heating the catalyst used for the gas-phase dehydration of methanol to produce dimethyl ether, is the medium-pressure superheated steam used to heat the startup heater steam vapor or methanol vapor?
It’s definitely methanol vapor. At startup, methanol vapor is heated by a startup furnace and then fed into the reactor to heat the catalyst bed.
It should be methanol superheated steam, as mentioned above, because water vapor significantly damages the activity of the dimethyl ether catalyst.
