It’s certain that external pressure types are more expensive than internal pressure types of the same diameter!
For applications requiring a large amount of compensation and high stability, an axially outwardly pressurized type is used; if such considerations are not relevant, an inwardly pressurized type is chosen from an economic perspective
In terms of performance, the external pressure type is better; from an economic perspective, the internal pressure type is cheaper. It is recommended that the original poster consider all factors based on actual needs, as a more expensive option is not necessarily the best choice
1. External pressure type bellows compensators are mainly used for steam or hot water pipelines; they are generally not used for other media. 2. In internal-pressure type bellows compensators, when the pipeline expands thermally and the compensator compresses, the bellows also compresses. Due to the low axial stiffness of the bellows, there is a problem of stability caused by compression forces; when the ratio of the bellows’ length to its outer diameter is greater than 1.4, it is prone to instability and damage. In contrast, external-pressure type bellows compensators experience stretching of the bellows when the pipeline expands thermally and the compensator is compressed; there is no risk of instability, so the length of the bellows can be quite large (meaning a high number of waves), allowing for a significant amount of compensation to be achieved.
