What is the difference in the impact of gas-phase extraction from the column side lines and liquid-phase extraction from the liquid collection tray on column operation?
Personally, it is used less in vapor extraction; it generally reduces the vapor load at the upper part of the extraction outlet, resulting in a significant pressure drop within the tower, and is often used to control the tower pressure. Liquid-phase extraction reduces the liquid flow within the tower, thereby decreasing the liquid load in the lower section of the extraction outlet. Meanwhile, reflux is usually introduced into the upper part of the extraction outlet, causing a significant temperature drop in the tower; this approach is often used to control the temperature in various sections of the tower
