Is lignite suitable for large-scale coal chemical plants? I recently encountered a problem at work. During a visit to Jinzhou in Liaoning, I noticed that the city has excellent geographical advantages, port advantages, and water resources. Additionally, its policy environment is favorable, making project approvals relatively easy. The area around Jinzhou is also rich in coal resources; however, most of the coal found there is lignite, which has a low calorific value and high ash content. I’m not sure whether lignite is suitable for building large-scale coal chemical plants. What is the current progress in gasification technologies? Lignite is an excellent type of coal for coal pyrolysis and direct liquefaction; **plans have been made in this regard. Additionally, co-generation of brown coal power and heat can be planned; Australia has a co-developed brown coal power and heat co-generation project at a facility in the northeast.
:) :) It’s suitable; I’ve seen experimental data from Texaco gasifiers, which included gasification data for different coal types from the 1980s, and the data for lignite was quite good, indicating that it is suitable for gasification
The Texaco gasifier doesn’t work; its slurry-forming capacity is insufficient
Lignite is not suitable for coal water slurry gasification due to its high ash content, high internal moisture content, and low lower heating value. If used in such gasification processes, it results in high oxygen and coal consumption, as well as poor gas composition, leading to high project costs and poor efficiency. Lignite can be considered for gas production using Anode furnaces; such systems have been put into operation at Heibai, Jilin Changshan Fertilizer Factory, and Huaihua. The coal consumption is high, but the investment required is low.

Lignite is still good for producing natural gas, using coal crushing and pressurization technology. It is more appropriate to use a Luchi stove. The Great Plains of the United States, the Shasuo region in South Africa, and the Yima Gas area. . . Moreover, there is a large gap in gas usage in our country, offering great potential for development. However, it’s very difficult to get approval for such a project!
Using a Lurgi furnace yields methane with a high content, making it the most economical option for producing natural gas. If used for other chemical applications, the cost will be very high
Lignite is used for dry gasification, which is both economical and efficient; it represents the main direction for the future development of coal chemical industry!
Lignite, due to its high ash content, high internal moisture, and low lower heating value, is suitable for Lurgi furnaces. We’re using it right now.
