Our systems are of small scale, with low material flow rates, but high head requirements. Yet why is it difficult to select centrifugal pumps for low flow rates and high heads? There are very few pump models available, and their prices are even higher than those of larger pumps
These pumps are expensive and prone to breaking. My previous employer used a pump with low flow rate but high head to replace the original multi-stage centrifugal pumps during technical upgrades. This type of pump tends to overheat easily during operation, requires frequent repairs, and has low efficiency, typically around 40%.
The design and manufacturing of pumps with low flow rates but high head present significant challenges; the hydraulic calculations as well as the mechanical calculations related to the shaft system are complex. During manufacturing, the large diameter of the impeller together with narrow flow channels makes further processing very difficult, which often requires the use of precision casting. So the price is very high.

Consider using a Suntain high-speed centrifugal pump; the price is a bit high. However, it has good performance, and it is also easier to maintain than multi-stage pumps.
