I’m currently helping a friend develop a small absorption and stabilization system. The liquefied gas produced contains small amounts of sulfur and thiol compounds, which give it an unpleasant odor; these compounds can also cause corrosion issues with copper components. Since the scale of the installation is small, I’m hoping to use a simple desulfurizing agent to remove these impurities in a single desulfurization tank, without the need for very strict requirements. I’m looking for a simple and effective desulfurizing agent – if anyone has relevant information, please share it. Thank you!

Solid-base desulfurization of alcohols should be the simplest method, but it remains to be determined whether liquefied gas corrosion can meet the requirements.
A solid alkali desulfurization alcohol fixed-bed needs to be added; the desulfurization alcohol solid alkali catalyst produced by Beijing Sanju Company can be used, and it yields good results
As requested by the poster, a washing with about 10% NaOH solution is sufficient.
A simple, easy-to-implement and practical method is to use a 4% NaOH solution for alkaline cleaning. This does not increase production costs significantly; only an oil-water separation tank and a small mixer are required. The alkaline solution can be reused, and it needs to be replaced only when the sampling analysis results show it is no longer effective. The results obtained are very good

I think, in a situation like the one described by the original poster, if the requirements aren’t too high, it’s sufficient to use a fixed-alkali tank; the space velocity can be set lower, and the height-to-diameter ratio of the fixed-alkali tower can be made larger. It’s likely possible to remove over 80% of the thiols in this way. If the requirement is to reduce the thiol level to less than 1 ppm, then a specialized catalyst for thiol removal would be necessary. cuihuaji2@163.com
