Our unit plans to purchase a self-priming pump to transfer water from the sedimentation tank to a height of 62 meters; there is only one butterfly valve on the pump’s outlet pipe. I wonder whether the backflow of water in the pipeline when the pump stops will cause the pump’s impeller to rotate in the opposite direction. I hope the experts can give some guidance.
It will definitely reverse; a check valve needs to be installed at the outlet or a foot valve at the inlet! Moreover, reversal can cause significant damage to the equipment, such as the detachment of the impeller back cover.
No bottom valve is needed at the inlet; a filter should be installed, and a check valve should be placed at the pump outlet.
Thank you both. Suction pumps do not require a check valve at the inlet; now the issue is that there is no check valve at the outlet. It seems I still need to talk to the designer.
Some self-priming pumps already come equipped with a check valve; it is not necessary to add one, but a gate valve can also be installed. If the pump does not come with a check valve, it must be added.
Add a check valve after the pump; it’s not necessary to add one before the pump. It has its own reservoir, so no further filling is needed after adding water once
