I want to dry methanol; should I use 3A molecular sieve or 4A molecular sieve? I would appreciate some advice from those who are more experienced.
3A is sufficient; it is the 3A molecular sieve that we use for water removal in our equipment!

What is the water content in your methanol? If the water content is above 1000 ppm, it is recommended not to use molecular sieves for dehydration, as this would require frequent regeneration of the molecular sieves. In most cases, 3A and 4A molecular sieves can be used; 4A has an adsorption effect on certain large-molecule alcohols, so it is advisable to use them in combination, with the ratio adjustable as needed. For larger quantities, a fixed-bed configuration can be employed. At our company, we use a mixture of 3A and 5A molecular sieves (in a 3:1 ratio) to remove trace amounts of water and alcohols
If you only remove water, I suggest using 3A molecular sieve. I work with molecular sieves. 3A molecular sieves remove water without adsorbing methanol at all.
