Environmental protection is one of the important aspects of sustainable development. The fertilizers produced by fertilizer companies not only need to increase crop yields but also to improve soil fertility ； It is not only necessary to produce fertilizers that are environmentally friendly, but fertilizer production itself must also adhere to principles of \"clean production,\" reduce the emission of \"three wastes,\" and make use of resources comprehensively, in order to \"make the soil more fertile and improve people’s lives.\" Recently, the **Environmental Protection Administration issued two documents: the **Catalogue of Environmental Protection Technologies Encouraged for Development (2007) and the **Catalogue of Advanced Technologies for Pollution Prevention and Control (2007), recommending a number of environmental protection technologies to the public. Among them, three technologies are related to fertilizer production and can apply for central **financial support. 1. The **Catalogue of Environmental Protection Technologies Encouraged for Development (2007 Edition)** includes an item titled \"Comprehensive Treatment Technologies for Waste Gases and Solid Wastes from Nitrogen Fertilizer Plants, as Well as Clean Production Techniques\". This technology makes use of washing and recovery methods to reduce the urea dust concentration in the exhaust gases from urea granulation towers from over 100 mg/Nm3 to below 30 mg/Nm3, and to reduce the ammonia concentration from over 50 mg/Nm3 to below 10 mg/Nm3. This technology is suitable for urea manufacturers that use naturally ventilated granulation towers, as well as nitrogen fertilizer manufacturers that employ a fixed-bed batch gas production process using anthracite as raw material. II. There are two items in the **List of Advanced Pollution Control Demonstration Technologies (2007 Edition)**: (1) The \"ammonia-based wet flue gas desulfurization technology for recovering ammonium sulfate from coal-fired flue gas\", which uses ammonia as an absorbent to purify the flue gas from large industrial boilers and power plant boilers, thereby producing ammonium sulfate fertilizer. (II) “Ultra-low emission treatment technology for wastewater from nitrogen fertilizer enterprises” is suitable for the treatment of circulating water and wastewater in such enterprises. It can **increase the concentration ratio of circulating water, enabling virtually no discharge of circulating cooling water, and thus achieving zero discharge of production wastewater as well as ultra-low emission of all wastewater. According to the \"Notice on Matters Concerning the Submission of Applications for Central Government Special Funds for Environmental Protection Projects in 2007,\" jointly issued by the Ministry of Finance and the State Environmental Protection Administration on July 9 this year, all three emission-reduction technologies related to fertilizers can be submitted for funding under these special funds. Among them, the technical renovation projects for flue gas desulfurization in coal-fired power plants are funded through loan interest subsidies, with no limit on the number of applications from different regions; any project that meets the requirements can apply. Catalogs of the same type issued prior to the release of these two documents become invalid starting today. Pollution control and emission reduction are crucial measures for promoting sustainable development and implementing the scientific outlook on development. Fertilizer companies should combine economic benefits with social benefits. Enterprises need to raise their awareness, recognizing that the creation of products and pollution control are essential foundations for human survival and development ； It is necessary to deepen our understanding that the ecological environment not only restricts human development but also determines the quality of human life. The two documents issued jointly by the **Ministry of Finance and the Environmental Protection Administration, along with the three recommended technologies, represent issues that need to be addressed urgently. Support from central government funds earmarked for environmental protection is available for such initiatives, and fertilizer companies should apply actively to implement them as soon as possible
