Hehe, it’s very simple – it’s to maintain a certain pressure in the coke oven during drying, so as to prevent the oven body from cracking
Apply pressure and prevent the cross-brace from sagging
When installing the cross braces, there is a certain gap between them and the top surface of the furnace; this gap essentially represents the vertical expansion amount of the coke oven when it is in operation at high temperatures. To keep the cross-tie horizontal during the furnace heating process, it needs to be raised to a certain height, and this height is gradually reduced as the furnace expands, until it is completely lowered. It’s not just the cross braces; the vertical braces are the same in the case of oven drying. We usually use brick pads; actually, the material doesn’t matter much – what’s important is to make adjustments based on temperature and expansion rates.
Here, we use wire to tie the vertical and horizontal strips together.
