As the title suggests, can a regular on/off ball valve solve the problem?
The Chinese term refers to the (main steam) electromagnetic relief valve, but different manufacturers use different English names for it!
It’s because the sealing performance and sensitivity of those ball valves are not up to standard
If the unit shuts down suddenly, the steam system may not be able to maintain balance, which could lead to overpressure in the steam pipelines. With ordinary valves, by the time someone arrives, the safety valves will have already activated. However, with electromagnetic relief valves, once the unit shuts down, these valves can be opened to a specific position, thereby preventing overpressure in the steam pipelines and protecting them. It also prevents the device from becoming dangerous; if the safety valve cannot open, it could lead to more serious accidents such as pipe bursts.
