Regarding the filtration of sulfur, can impurities be removed from sulfur with a moisture content and impurity level of over 95%, as produced as a by-product in ammonia synthesis plants, through liquid sulfur filtration? I hope to use this sulfur to coat urea in order to produce controlled-release fertilizers; if it can be used, will it have an impact on the rate at which the fertility of these controlled-release fertilizers is released?
The filtration issue with 0.3% aluminum hydroxide… One option is to use alkylphenol in a concentration of over 99%; what is the best way to remove that 0.3% of aluminum hydroxide? With 50 kilograms of aluminum hydroxide per batch, the filtering process is too demanding; other methods could be considered. Looking forward to replies.
For filtration, we are currently using multi-functional filter presses. Our materials are highly corrosive, so corrosion protection is very important. At present, fiberglass lining is used for this purpose, but it tends to delaminate, which is quite frustrating. Do you have any better suggestions? There are still those with adhesive, but the effect isn’t good either!
Our device is equipped with a filter, which is designed to capture small solid particles; it has a pore size of 5 microns and is made of titanium rods. The manufacturer does not recommend cleaning with solvents or water, as this may cause the pore sizes to become blocked; instead, it only suggests using gas backwashing. However, the cleaning requirements in the workshop are very strict, with a material residue limit of 10 ppm. It’s not cost-effective to replace a set of filters after just one use (a set of filter sticks costs over 2,000). Does the original poster have any experience with cleaning in this area?

Complete removal of the aluminum hydroxide present is, I believe, very difficult to achieve through physical filtration. If that’s the case, it might be better to consider methods such as distillation or extraction. Your current level is 0.3%, and I don’t know to what extent you need to reduce it. From an economic perspective, if your alkylphenol is expensive, fine filtration can be used to achieve the desired result. On the other hand, I think centrifugal filtration or plate and frame filtration followed by bag filtration should be sufficient.

It is necessary to filter liquid sulfur; in its solid state, it consists of 95% sulfur and over 4% water, with the remainder being impurities such as organic substances, iron, arsenic, etc. I know that there are specialized filters for liquid sulfur, and those produced by Yixing Filtration Equipment Factory are the best; I’m not sure what level of filtration efficiency can be achieved.
Both of these methods should work. However, they all share one common feature: their accuracy is not guaranteed. You should be able to inquire with the relevant manufacturers to see if they can meet your requirements.

I heard that some filters can remove the small amount of organic matter present in water. Is that possible?
It depends on what kind of material it is, as well as the various requirements for that material. We can communicate more.

I think it should be treated using ion exchange resin, or through RO or EDI. This goes a bit beyond our scope; it falls within the field of professional water treatment.

It depends on what situation needs to be handled. Generally, I think distillation is one method; it uses the difference in boiling points to separate water from other substances. Of course, this involves the issue of energy consumption. Another approach is to use membrane separation technology, with appropriate ultrafiltration membranes or reverse osmosis membranes, to achieve the separation of water from other substances. But all of this will require experiments to find the best approach. Based on the description above, it seems that the goal is to remove trace amounts of water from alcohols and amines; in that case, it seems possible to use ion exchange resins to absorb the water as well. I would like to ask the original poster and my colleagues: I carry out decolorization of my product in an ethyl acetate solution; each batch amounts to about 3,000 liters, and 30 kg of activated carbon is added for heating-based decolorization. Please recommend a filtration device that meets the following requirements: 1. It should be able to filter using activated carbon (obvious). 2. It should be easy to operate (the IQ of my workers is generally low). 3. It should work well when washed with ethyl acetate, as the product is expensive and losses cannot be tolerated. 4. It should be able to be dried using compressed air. 5. Continuous operation isn’t necessary; it’s fine to process one batch or several batches at a time.
