In fact, the purpose of technical property rights is to promote technological progress. However, in China, the issue of intellectual property rights has been deliberately distorted by foreign companies. The person upstairs mentioned the example of Cathay Pacific; actually, BP’s patents should have entered the Chinese market back in 1986. If those patents were applied for at that time, they should have expired by now. These companies are well aware of this, and they bring up such issues in order to slow down the technological progress of domestic enterprises and maximize their economic interests in China. (A 15-year protection period should have expired long ago.) If intellectual property rights are always used as an excuse, then what’s the point of China introducing such technologies? What’s the point of protecting intellectual property rights? The same is true with GE’s gasification patents – the company transferred its gasification technology to southern Shandong in 1985, and more than 20 years have passed since then, yet they still use these patents to threaten domestic enterprises; it’s pure technological extortion!!!!
