I wonder how much you know about CTA? We are working on a project in this area.
I work in CTA; I’ve been in this field for four years now. Let’s discuss any issues together.
In my opinion, it is related to the industry cycle. Moreover, given that the threshold for building PTA plants is currently very low, competition in this industry is fierce. The price of the raw material PX is at a high level; at these prices, PTA producers basically won’t be able to make any profits. The future of PTA plants lies in energy conservation and reduced consumption – factors such as PX consumption, acetic acid consumption, wastewater discharge, and water usage are all key areas for achieving energy savings and reduced consumption.
The current downturn in the industry is related, to some extent, to rising oil prices and falling prices of downstream products. However, the main factor is the PTA futures market that has been active since last year; it seems that large buyers (reportedly worth hundreds of billions) are trying to drive down PTA prices through these futures contracts. As a result, various PTA manufacturers have started to stock up on PTA, with some large companies likely holding 300,000 to 400,000 tons each. Just like in the stock market, PTA futures prices will surely rise – for example, prices already reached over 8,000 in February. Furthermore, as mentioned above, taking necessary measures to reduce production costs is the most important thing. However, the funding required for project construction is also substantial; it’s not clear whether the domestic design developed by the China Textile Research Institute can help reduce these investment costs. By the way, I have been working as a PTA for 5 years now, and I really hope to exchange ideas with everyone!
The PTA project designed by the China Textile Research Institute – the Jialong Petrochemical PTA project – has a total investment of 2.24 billion yuan and is currently under construction; it should be in good shape
The appreciation of the RMB and rising wages have a significant impact on the textile industry; it is estimated that the PTA market will not improve in the short term.

The Jialong Petrochemical PTA project relies on Investa (DuPont) as the provider of proprietary technology, and it has little connection to the China Textile and Apparel Research Institute! The China Textile Research Institute is responsible for the detailed design! Additionally, it is said that there is a project in Chongqing that is being rebuilt using the \"domestically developed\" PTA technology from the China Textile and Apparel Research Institute! It seems that the PTA industry is a bit overheated at the moment; many places started implementing this project in the previous two years. Now it’s directly affected by PX prices, and companies are operating with only slim profits.
