The construction site where I am currently working is located along the Pearl River, where the thickness of the underlying silt is considerable; therefore, mixing piles are used to stabilize this silt layer for most foundations and load-bearing surfaces. Controlling the construction process is a real challenge: issues such as controlling the water-cement ratio, regulating the mixing depth, managing the time it takes for the mixing rod to move up and down, and conducting hydrostatic tests after completion. Some designers have suggested that the construction requirements do not need to be subject to overly strict controls – is that the case? I would be grateful for guidance from experts with experience in this area!
The water-cement ratio and pile length are both easy to control; a fixed amount of water and a fixed amount of cement are used, and it’s sufficient to mark the pile length at the corresponding height of the drill pipe. In terms of the actual construction process, I think the most important thing to pay attention to is ensuring uniform mixing. I’ve seen cases where the quality of the mixed piles was very poor, and the results were far from what was expected, and the main reason for this was uneven mixing. Therefore, it’s important to pay close attention to the mixing process during construction.
