I’ve run into a difficult problem these past two days. We need to install a paraffin diaphoretic tank here; it’s of the jacketed type, weighs 50 tons, has a diameter of 2800 mm and a height of 12000 mm. The thickness of its outer shell is 10 mm. For the tubular lifting lugs, pipes with a diameter of Φ273 are to be used. According to the standards, such lugs should come equipped with reinforcement plates, but since the shell is too thin, such reinforcement isn’t useful. I’d like to ask if anyone has any good ideas on how to lift this tank, and how to determine the size of the reinforcement plates. Another question: when selecting lifting lugs based on weight, should the weight taken into account be the total weight of the equipment or the weight that each individual lug can bear? The shell is too thin; shims can be added, or more lifting points can be installed. However, it’s best to verify the shell’s strength according to WRC107 standards, as lifting is no trivial task....
It is supported by a single lifting lug; it is recommended to use plate-type lifting lugs, as they are safer and simplify the calculations. The equipment is only 12 meters long, making it easy to remove the hook as well!

In the case of lifting, the plate-type lugs can be reinforced in accordance with the relevant provisions of SH/T3515-2003.
