Many colleagues who are just starting out in the field of design likely share similar confusions as I do. First, I am relatively unfamiliar with the field I work in and don’t know where to start ; Secondly, without the necessary guidance, young people are prone to making the mistake of wanting quick results, which often leads them down the wrong path ; Additionally, technical confidentiality is high, and many technicians are unwilling to share their knowledge ; There are many other reasons as well, which is why many people working in piping design still don’t know what to do even after two years in the field. I’m putting forward this idea to encourage others to speak up and offer guidance to young people who share the same confusion as I do. I hope it’s possible to discuss where to start, and the direction for personal development once a certain foundation has been established, etc. I hope everyone feels free to share their thoughts! ! In my opinion, this is true not only for the piping field but also for other fields as well; there isn’t a single process that can be mastered without effort. Those who work in design need three to five years before they can truly get the hang of it. The key lies in having the right mindset – avoiding impatience and rushing, studying diligently, and taking things step by step – and then a bright future awaits.

The future is bright, but the path is tortuous
There are numerous books and standards related to piping design, and it’s almost impossible to remember and master them all in a short time. Therefore, it’s important to find an experienced mentor to guide you. However, the basics of piping design aren’t that complicated; if you get the right opportunities, choose the right books, work on a few projects, you’ll basically understand everything in two or three years. I mean, “basically” – in large design firms, people are more willing to share their knowledge; there’s no need to be secretive about such basic things. My suggestions are as follows: 1. The technical requirements aren’t very high; it’s all basic stuff that doesn’t require much research. It’s just a matter of getting familiar with it. Don’t be afraid – be brave. 2. Observe the site more often, study the information related to it, and ask questions. I don’t like it when people ask questions after they’ve only glanced at something without having a general understanding first. Constantly asking questions isn’t good. 3. Choose the right books. There are many books out there; pick a few good ones that focus on specific areas, and it’s important to delve deeply into them. 4. Have access to all the commonly used standards and study them thoroughly. Although there are many standards, only a few are actually used frequently. As for the development of this industry… well, I’m not sure. It’s tough work. Compared to other fields, the salaries aren’t very high, and the technical requirements aren’t as high either. There’s not much that needs to be kept secret. Although piping automation isn’t very advanced yet, who knows what will happen in the future? Maybe you should consider working for a client instead? ? ? Let alone being a leader or project manager – how many people can actually do that? Hehe, who has a bright future? How about we start our own small chemical plant and work there for two years before retiring? ?

Choosing the right book? How can one choose the right book? For those new to design, and I am one of them, I think the key is to read the relevant specifications frequently, set a goal for oneself each day, and learn a little bit every day – little by little, over time. Of course, there must be direct learning*. If you want to make faster progress, you need to be brave enough to ask questions. Of course, you shouldn’t ask questions blindly; first, you should understand the issue you want to ask about and offer your own opinions or insights. By doing this, you can show your understanding to those who are more experienced, and they will naturally provide you with targeted guidance! :)
Who can provide some books on piping requirements, the standard names? I’m a beginner; I hope the experts can give me some guidance.
I have been working in the piping field at a design institute for over 4 years, and based on my experience I have a few suggestions for reference: 1. When starting out, it’s important to become familiar with various regulations related to piping (in my opinion, fire safety regulations are also very important); 2. Seek out more high-quality reference materials on piping templates for learning*, drawing on the strengths of various sources ; 3. Develop a good drawing style with your own characteristics, as this is very beneficial for future development ; 4. Engage in practical contact to develop one’s spatial imagination skills, and pay close attention to on-site experience ; 5. Master more advanced drawing software, such as SPDA and so on ; 6. The last and most important point is to dare to think and dare to act. From personal experience, many beginners are afraid of various things when drawing and hesitate to think freely, which is extremely harmful to their improvement and offers no benefits at all. There’s no need to rush this. I only remember my first teacher saying that one must be bold and careful; there’s nothing that can’t be dealt with. Being bold here doesn’t mean being arrogant; it means having the courage to face challenges. At the beginning, one makes many mistakes easily, but don’t be afraid. I too will be doing piping work in the future, but after reading the advice from those above, I’m still very confused. . . . There are no conditions available at the moment; once I start working there, I’ll have to carefully familiarize myself with the regulations. .
I’ve also been working in piping for half a year now~~ To be honest, things have been pretty tough. My supervisor is in charge of the manufacturing process, while I’m responsible for piping work~ So from the beginning until now, my supervisor basically hasn’t taught me anything~ It’s frustrating. The only way I can learn is by reading books~ Sigh~
I experienced the same thing as those upstairs; the only difference is that my mentor is also a pipefitter. He was okay with me, but I felt that constantly disturbing others would interfere with their normal work, so I had no choice but to read books.
The key to working with piping is to have projects at hand, as it is through these projects that one can improve their skills. I think just reading books isn’t useful; it needs to be combined with projects. When I come across something I don’t understand, I look it up in a book; this way, it leaves a deep impression on me. Also, it’s important to summarize frequently, as piping systems are very complex and intricate. Sometimes, something done in one area might not be used until much later, and over time details can be forgotten; therefore, it’s necessary to be good at summarizing.
Are there any experts who can recommend some good books?
100% complete beginners here – I don’t understand those codes, nor all those national standards :(
