There are many enterprises in China that produce potassium sulfate compound fertilizers using the low-temperature conversion method of potassium chloride. I would like to know more about the utilization of the by-product hydrochloric acid: 1. The quality of hydrochloric acid – including the following parameters: total acidity (expressed as HCl), mass fraction of iron (expressed as Fe), mass fraction of ash after ignition, mass fraction of free chlorine (expressed as Cl), mass fraction of arsenic, mass fraction of sulfates (expressed as sulfate ions), and turbidity (or clarity). 2. Utilization options: a. For internal use – in what applications? b. For export – to where and for what purposes? Please provide as detailed an answer as possible.
Our company has installed a hydrochloric acid purification system, but it isn’t operating properly at the moment; therefore, the various parameters related to the hydrochloric acid have not been measured yet. I will share those values once they are measured.
The quality parameters of our company’s hydrochloric acid are as follows: the mass fraction of total acidity (expressed as HCl) is >31.7%; the mass fraction of iron (expressed as Fe) is <0.0002%; the mass fraction of ash after ignition is <0.005%; the mass fraction of free chlorine (expressed as Cl) is <0.002%; the mass fraction of arsenic is <0.0001%; the mass fraction of sulfates (expressed as sulfate ions) is <0.03%. The turbidity (or clarity) is 7.0 mg/l. Our products are mainly exported to places such as Shanghai, to pharmaceutical companies. In the future, the company plans to develop downstream products. The quality of hydrochloric acid produced as a by-product of the low-temperature conversion of potassium chloride to potassium sulfate compound fertilizer is similar to that of hydrochloric acid synthesized in the chlor-alkali industry. The hydrochloric acid produced as a by-product of potassium sulfate synthesis using the potassium chloride high-temperature furnace method contains a small amount of sulfuric acid (1-5%). 3 Our company uses the by-product of dilute hydrogen chloride gas along with SO3 from the sulfuric acid plant to synthesize chlorosulfonic acid.
1. Use softened water for absorption 2. Use white potassium 3. Use concentrated sulfuric acid – this is the method of adding materials
