I currently have a DN40 pipeline pump, and I need to pump water up from a pool that is 2 meters deep. Can this pipeline pump be used as a self-priming pump? How should the pipeline be installed? I appreciate your advice.
It depends on what type of pump you have; pipeline pumps are mostly centrifugal pumps. I’m not sure if there are any positive-displacement pipeline pumps available. If it’s not a self-priming pump, then there’s nothing you can do! It has nothing to do with pipes!
So I’m thinking of installing a device that can store liquid in front of or behind the pump, so that the pump can always have liquid to draw from and can exert a certain pumping force. I’m not sure if this is feasible. Who has worked on devices in this area? Please discuss it.
It’s completely possible; there are two methods: 1. Add a negative pressure tank in front of the pump, with its size needing to be calculated. Water from the tank enters the tank through pipes at the upper (side) part, while a pipe at the bottom connects to the pump’s inlet. Before starting the pump for the first time, fill the tank with water, then start the pump. While the water in the tank has not yet been pumped out, the negative pressure generated should be sufficient to draw water from the tank into the vacuum tank. After the pump is stopped, the water in the tank remains, and it can be started directly the next time the pump is turned on. For this method, I use pumps with a capacity of up to 60 cubic meters. 2. Install a foot valve on the pump inlet pipe. If we need more details, we can discuss it further.
Thank you to the guy on the third floor; now it’s much simpler. Well, if the water in the negative pressure tank at the front runs out, there will still be a period during which air enters that tank. Will this air affect the operation of the pump? Actually, self-priming pumps work on the same principle, so I think it shouldn’t have any impact; I’m not sure though.
