I would like to ask how high-sulfur coal and low-sulfur coal are classified? What are the differences in coal gasification technology and subsequent gas purification technology for high-sulfur coal?
Coal with a total sulfur content of >2% is generally considered high-sulfur coal.
Currently, there seems to be no unified classification; terms such as high-sulfur and low-sulfur are only relative. In areas where sulfur content is generally low, the classification differs from that in areas with higher sulfur content. In the future, as coal resources become scarce and low-sulfur coal becomes increasingly rare, coal types that were previously classified as high-sulfur may be classified as low-sulfur coal.
