Connection method between the railing and the steel platform

I would like to ask experienced friends: if a socket-type connection is used between the railing and the steel platform, what are the typical values for the insertion depth and radial clearance? This post was last edited by zzg5680 on 2009-2-4 15:20]
Why use a socket-type connection? When using this connection method, the radial clearance is generally taken as one size larger than that of the railing, with the principle of avoiding machining being followed; the depth is recommended to be at least twice the diameter of the tube. Personal opinion, for reference only.
It is widely used on offshore platforms. Weld φ50x6 seamless steel pipes on the platform, with a height of 100 mm. Then insert the railing (φ34x3.5) into the larger tube, and connect the two tubes together with bolts (preferably cadmium-plated). This way, it can be disassembled for easy transportation.
Agree with what was said above; we usually use seamless steel pipes with dimensions of φ60x4 and a height of 100 mm, into which φ48X4 galvanized steel pipes are inserted. It’s important to ensure that the radial gap isn’t too small, as painting is required after cutting and welding the steel pipes, which increases their diameter and may prevent them from fitting properly. On the other hand, the gap shouldn’t be too large either, as this could cause movement. Generally, a gap of 3–4 mm between the inner diameter of the outer pipe and its outer diameter is appropriate. This is just my personal suggestion.
