We currently have a mixing unit that uses acidic slurry as the medium, and there are coiled tubes inside the unit. I would like to ask whether it is better to use titanium tubes or copper tubes for these tubes
Why was the idea of using titanium pipes and copper pipes considered? As you said, this is a mixing device used for mixing slurry-like substances, and such substances usually contain sand and stones; therefore, this puts a lot of stress on the equipment over time. If copper pipes are used, they will wear down and thin out after a short while, eventually leading to holes in them. As for titanium pipes, well, their strength shouldn’t be an issue, but their cost is extremely high!!! Moreover, their wear resistance isn’t necessarily very good either. I have a small suggestion: use 20# steel with a Ni-P electroplating coating on the outside. Firstly, this coating has a high hardness (comparable to that of chromium), and secondly, it resists acid corrosion! It’s not a very mature suggestion!!!!
As a supplementary note, it is also possible to use special brass such as HSi-80-3; it has high wear resistance, but its acid resistance is unknown. Additionally, applying titanium carbide by spraying on the surface of carbon steel can also improve both wear resistance and acid resistance
Since there is steam at 180 degrees Celsius inside the coil, I’m not sure whether what you mentioned won’t have an impact on heat transfer?
There are generally no coiled tubes inside mixer equipment; the medium used is slurry, so wear and tear must be taken into consideration. What is the main purpose of having coiled tubes inside the equipment? Heat exchange with mud? Can this be done before going into the mixer? Personal opinion, for reference only!
Heat transfer can be confirmed through calculation! If the heat transfer amount is not sufficient, the heat transfer area can be increased; haha, once this calculation is done, it will be clear how to proceed.
