Literally, it means “to write,” and it may also imply the meaning of “to set.”
In computer applications, it refers to: recording (data) on storage devices: handshake
It makes sense to think of it as a reasonable setting.

Settings – that’s correct. The original text probably refers to processing by computer programs; in the past, people were used to saying that data is “written” into memory. I guess the original text was written by someone from a computer science field: lol
