Why does JB/T4700-2000 require surface flaw detection on the connection welds between Type A and Type B flanges and the shell? Is surface flaw detection not necessary for ordinary materials?
Since this weld is quite important, its significance is beyond that of the welds at the connections between pipes and flanges. Since RT testing is not possible in this case, the requirement for surface inspection was put forward merely to remind the manufacturer to pay attention to the welding quality

In my personal opinion (which may be incorrect), the welds between flanges of types A and B and the cylinder are classified as Class C welds. Generally, the drawings specify non-destructive testing requirements only for Class A and B welds. However, since the welds between flanges of types A and B and the cylinder are quite important, surface inspection is necessary; I agree with what was said on the second floor.
