I often hear the experienced workers talk about the five treasures of petroleum refining, and today I finally found the answer. In 1961, Liu Fang, the deputy minister of the Petroleum Ministry, presided over a refining research conference in Xiangshan, Beijing, to formulate plans for the development of refining technology. The meeting called for mastering the process technologies in five areas: fluidized catalytic cracking, catalytic reforming, delayed coking, urea dewaxing, as well as related catalysts and additives. There was a domestic film at that time titled \"Five Golden Flowers.\" The movie featured 5 hardworking and beautiful girls from ethnic minorities, all named Jinhua, who were very popular among the audience. People vividly refer to these 5 new technologies in the refining industry as the “Five Golden Flowers”.

It seems that hydrogenation technology wasn’t given much attention at that time.
The first four are all decarburization methods. Given the current situation, especially with the need to improve energy efficiency, these methods aren’t very effective. However, they do have their advantages; it’s possible to enhance their efficiency by using catalysts and additives. Hydrogenation technology should also be considered these days, as its efficiency is quite high and the quality of the results is good. So, in my opinion, these can be regarded as the “six leading methods”
