China’s fertilizer companies all act in a herd-like manner; once they see that a certain product can be sold for profit, they all rush to enter that market, without considering whether there is a surplus or not. What’s most concerning is that most of the products manufactured in China are semi-finished goods, which yield low profits and require significant resources. The chemical industry is characterized by high energy consumption and high levels of pollution. We only know how to export semi-finished products, yet more money goes to other countries where they are processed into finished goods – which is truly infuriating and heartbreaking. Moreover, in the factories and mines being built these days, most of the key equipment as well as the necessary technologies have to be imported; it’s unclear when we will see China develop such things on its own. The heavy industry in the country is a cause for concern at present, not to mention machinery. Our GDP is built up through the sale of shoes, clothes, raw materials, and resources. The GDP generated by selling pants cannot compare to that generated by Japan in selling cars, cameras, and branded products
