I am calculating the size of a reactor. The liquid phase volume flow rate of its reactants is 23 m3/h, and its space velocity is required to be 5h-1. Is its volume: 23 divided by 5 = about 4.6m3? airspeed definition: Space velocity = volumetric flow/catalyst bed volume. There is also a reactor with a gas phase volume flow rate of 3000 m3/h and a space velocity of 30h-1. What is the approximate volume of the reactor and how to calculate it?
"Chemical Reaction Engineering" should have been mentioned above. I don't have any textbooks at hand. In my memory, the space velocity is the volumetric flow rate of the feed gas in the feed state/reactor volume. So the unit is 1/h. If this is the case, just 23/4 will be enough. But I can’t remember clearly. There seems to be a similar example in the Reaction Engineering book. You can check it out. The hero flipped through the book and gave an answer.
Is the entire reactor filled with catalyst?

. . . The original poster calculated the reaction volume and divided it by a filling coefficient. . It seems to be around 0.7~0.8
