Karamay has been awarded the title of “**Garden City**”. The Ministry of Construction issued a notice recently, deciding to designate 34 cities as the “**Garden Cities**” for 2007. Three cities in Xinjiang have received this honor, and Karamay is one of them. Karamay was born thanks to oil, and it has continued to develop and grow by relying on its oil industry. Over the nearly 50 years since its establishment, thanks to the unremitting efforts of several generations of oil industry workers and the strong impetus from the rapid development of the oil industry, Karamay has seen significant progress in its economic and social sectors. The city’s appearance has undergone dramatic changes, and it has become a modern oil city centered on the oil and petrochemical industries, characterized by rapid economic growth and well-developed urban functions. In recent years, the Karamay Municipal Party Committee and municipal authorities have firmly upheld the scientific development concept, adhered to a people-centered approach, and earnestly implemented the relevant directives on urban greening issued by the higher authorities and the autonomous region. They have continuously improved the level of urban greening and beautification, strived to enhance the living environment, and worked hard to create an ecological garden city. Ecological protection forests have been established in the area where the main wind blows from the northwest in Karamay’s urban area, forming a green barrier that surrounds the city and highlighting the characteristic of a garden city where \"the city is surrounded by greenery and people live amidst beautiful landscapes\" ; Based on native tree species, a urban landscape is created that features flowers in spring, shade in summer, fruits in autumn, and greenery throughout the year, remaining lush all four seasons ; Make use of the Karamay River for landscaping and beautification; the water goes hand in hand with green trees and flowers, creating a beautiful scene. In 2007 alone, the city added nearly 400 hectares of green space; the green space coverage rate in the built-up areas reached 37.73%, with 66.26 square meters of garden green space per person and 10.31 square meters of public green space per person. An ecological environment characterized by blue skies, clear waters, and green lands was thus established.
In fact, Xinjiang is not what one imagines; there are also many beautiful places there
If it really is that good, I should go and take a look when I have time
I’ve never been to Karamay, but I have been to Shihezi, and it’s truly beautiful.
