Dear prawns, I would like to ask if carbon steel pipes that need to be insulated need to be treated with anti-corrosion. Our construction team said it was not necessary. Their basis was that the insulation blocked the air. I think it is necessary, but I can't convince them. I wonder if there are any standards to refer to in this regard.
Anti-corrosion treatment must be carried out, usually by removing rust on the surface of the pipe and then applying anti-rust paint.
Appropriate anti-corrosion measures must also be considered for insulated pipelines. They must be derusted as required and then painted with primer before thermal insulation. Because the insulation material itself may be corrosive, if the quality of the insulation construction cannot be guaranteed or there is local leakage, it may also cause corrosion to the pipeline. The design requirements are the engineering requirements and shall be implemented in accordance with the requirements of the design documents.

In fact, the specific operation depends on whether the insulated pipe is high or low temperature. If the temperature is higher than 100 degrees, there is no need for anti-corrosion painting!
