Refer to the article dated 2006-04-10: The first phase of the project in Qujing, Yunnan, will have an output of 3,000 tons; the goal is to reach an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons of polysilicon within three years. Yunnan Aisixin Technology Co., Ltd. plans to complete this project within three years, aiming to build Asia’s largest high-purity polysilicon production facility in Qujing, Yunnan. On 2006-10-23, the first phase of the project in Yichang, Hubei, will have an output of 1,500 tons, with the aim of achieving an annual production capacity of 5,000 tons. The construction of the Nanguo Yichang Silicon Materials Base is set to be completed within two years. On 2007-3-1, in Leshan, Sichuan, Guangguang Company, which is controlled by Sichuan Investment Group, began production after a successful trial run in February 2007; the plant’s annual polysilicon production capacity is 1,000 tons. On 2007-3-2, in Qinghai, Wuxi Suntech Power Co., Ltd. plans to build the facility in three phases, with production expected to start one and a half years after construction begins. Wuxi Suntech’s 4,500-ton polysilicon project commenced operations this month. 2007-3-10: In Shizuishan, Ningxia, a 4,000-ton project was established through cooperation between Jiangsu Yangguang and Ningxia Dongfang Non-ferrous Metals Group sowie Ningxia Yinglite Power Group. At the end of 2008, Jiangsu Yangguang Co., Ltd. issued a statement regarding the progress of its polysilicon project. 2007-4-2: In Xinjin, Chengdu, Sichuan, a 1,500-ton project was carried out by Dongqi Leshan Silicon Materials Branch, which is part of Dongfang Electric; this company does not produce polysilicon. 2007-5-8: In Inner Mongolia, a 1,500-ton project was launched by Aerospace Machinery & Electronics Company and Inner Mongolia Shenzhou New Energy (Silicon Industry) Co., Ltd.; Aerospace Machinery & Electronics does not produce polysilicon, but a new polysilicon production company has been established in Inner Mongolia. 2007-5-29: The first phase of the project in Leshan, Sichuan, has an output capacity of 1,000 tons; by five years later, this capacity is expected to reach 10,000 tons. The first phase of Tongwei Group’s project will come online in June 2008. Tongwei Group and Leshan are working together to build a polysilicon production facility with an annual output of 10,000 tons. 2007-7-2: In Wanzhou, Chongqing, a 3,000-ton project was undertaken by Daquan Group. The total investment for this project was 4 billion yuan; it represents China’s largest polysilicon project, with construction starting in Wanzhou. 2007-7-2: In Yanshi, Luoyang, Henan, a 3,000-ton project was established through joint investment by China National Nonferrous Metal Engineering Design and Research Institute, Luoyang Monocrystalline Silicon Co., Ltd., and Luoyang Jinfeng Investment Management Co., Ltd. Under the name Luoyang Zhongsi High-Tech Co., Ltd., this company began operations in June 2007. The expansion project to produce 1,000 tons of polysilicon was successfully commissioned, and the 2,000-ton production facility under construction at Luoyang Zhongsi High-Tech was also put into use
Xinjiang Silicon Industry Company, which was registered and established from the 2nd to the 20th, plans to commence trial operations of the project by June 30th next year. Jiangxi Sunway LDK Solar High-Tech Co., Ltd. is currently the largest producer of solar polysilicon wafers in Asia. Located in the High-Tech Development Zone of Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province, it is a high-tech photovoltaic enterprise that specializes in the research, development, production, and sales of solar polysilicon ingots and wafers, and it boasts some of the most advanced production technologies and equipment in the world. The company’s registered capital is 83.6 million US dollars, with a total investment of nearly 300 million US dollars. It came online in April 2006; its capacity reached 100 megawatts in July. In August, it was included in the “RED HERRING Top 100 Asian Companies” list, and its capacity reached 200 megawatts in October, earning it the title of “LDK Speed Miracle” from international experts. The company will achieve a capacity of 1,000 megawatts by 2010
Jiangxi Saiwei LDK Solar High-Tech Co., Ltd. is reported to be the largest of its kind at present; it is currently under construction and is set to go into operation by the end of this year or early next year
At present, polysilicon projects in China have taken on a trend akin to a herd mentality, with repeated construction projects that are energy-intensive, polluting, and costly. **Greater attention and regulation are being applied in this area; the main reason is that no breakthroughs have been achieved in key technologies, resulting in a lack of international competitiveness and technical support. The outlook is concerning. There will eventually come a day when things will be reshuffled. :o
Qinghai Yellow River Hydropower has also built a plant capable of producing 1,600 tons of polysilicon per year; it came online in 2009, and there is also a second phase. There are two in Qinghai, and there is also Suntech in Wuxi.
There’s also the polysilicon plant invested in by Nanjing Daliu Group in Tuoketuo County, Inner Mongolia – it was completed and put into operation around June 2009, I think~:)
