In the materials on refractory materials I read today, there was this sentence: Introduction: a conventional high-cement castable based on corundum with self-leveling and de-airing characteristics. I’m not sure how to understand self-leveling and de-airing in this context My own translation is as follows: Introduction: A highly adhesive mud with self-flowing and venting properties, based on corundum. Please share your opinions
cement castable: cement-based casting material; self-leveling: self-leveling material; de-airing: degassing
Could you explain what self-leveling means?
I found one that seems suitable: Self-leveling is a technology that emerged in the 1970s. Its advantages are that there is no separation of components (the various elements in the cement mortar do not separate from each other during the construction process and after hydration), no sanding occurs (after hydration, sand appears on the surface and cannot be leveled using pure cement powder), and no dust is generated (no white powder appears on the surface after hydration); The shrinkage rate is low, typically ranging from 0.3 to 0.4 per thousand; no cracks appear on the surface after hydration. Ordinary cement has a higher shrinkage rate, which makes cracks more likely to occur. The typical construction thickness is 6 millimeters or more; for those with a high organic content, such as epoxy coatings, a thickness of 2 millimeters may be sufficient. After mixing, it hardens in 2 hours, and it is walkable on its surface after 3 hours. It is mainly suitable for large-scale construction, with a construction area of 300 to 400 square meters per hour. The mixture is prepared in the machine, and it can then be leveled using a regular trowel. For self-leveling cement with high fluidity, it is suitable for completely horizontal substrates but not for inclined substrates. For self-leveling cement with low fluidity, it can adapt to a slightly inclined substrate; it still flows along the surface of the substrate, but it does not spread everywhere like mercury under the force of gravity, achieving an absolutely horizontal distribution. For ordinary home-based repairs, traditional methods can be used, or one can purchase small packs of self-leveling cement to carry out the work themselves. Some self-leveling cement products cost 40 yuan per kilogram. Some self-leveling cements can only be used indoors. It is widely used in the ultra-clean floors of semiconductor production facilities, parking lots, theaters, squares, factories, and shopping malls.
