There is no use of LNG to produce methanol in China, as the cost is too high and it’s simply unaffordable
“After the \"West-to-East Gas Transmission\" and \"Sichuan-to-East Gas Transmission\" projects, using LNG to produce methanol no longer has any advantages
Can it be assumed that, due to resource constraints, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Yunnan basically no longer have a methanol industry?
Currently, the methanol market in South China is stable, with the prevailing price in the local market ranging from 3,350 to 3,400 yuan per ton. Demand in the market is weak, and some buyers are continuing to wait and see, resulting in continued low activity in port transactions. From the current domestic situation, LNG and methanol do not have cost advantages when used to produce methanol.
On the contrary, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Yunnan still have relatively large methanol production capacities; South China produces over 800,000 tons of methanol per year, while Yunnan produces 300,000 tons per year
There’s no price advantage; the market is in a chaotic state right now, which is troublesome
Beiyuan in Inner Mongolia has 1 million tons of capacity, and at current costs it is still more profitable than using coal.
Closing prices at ports in South China on the 24th: 2250–2300 yuan/ton. Due to weak demand from downstream industries, the methanol market in these ports is sluggish; the price at the port of discharge is between 2200–2300 yuan/ton. Buyers are less inclined to place large-order transactions, so sales remain mainly on a small-scale basis. Given their limited inventory, the sellers are quoting around 2,300 yuan per ton.
