Material switching in storage and transportation systems is very important. What considerations should be taken when switching crude oil from low-temperature, light crude tanks (such as 30 degrees) to high-temperature, heavy crude tanks (such as 55 degrees)? If the material pump gets emptied, what could be the cause?
Open the outlet valve of the heavy oil tank slightly in advance, allowing light and heavy crude oils to enter the pump simultaneously in parallel. Gradually open the outlet valve of the heavy oil tank and close the outlet valve of the light oil tank to achieve a smooth transition. The likely reason for the switch to evacuation is that the outlet of the heavy crude oil tank was opened too wide and too quickly, causing the light hydrocarbons in the pipeline to vaporize due to the high oil temperature.
