The annoying pollutant – coal gangue – has now become a “treasure”. On the 25th, the Provincial Economic Commission announced that this year the construction of coal gangue power plants across the province will reach 1.57 million kilowatts, accounting for about one-third of the total capacity added to power plants throughout the year – the highest figure on record. At present, our province relies primarily on thermal power; coal gangue and coal gas-based generating units account for less than 10% of the total installed capacity. At the same time, the amount of coal gangue accumulated across the province over the years has exceeded 1 billion tons, and emissions are set to increase at a rate of around 10% per year, exerting a significant negative impact on the environment. Starting this year, our province will focus on developing a new type of power industry characterized by conservation and recycling. Among them, generating electricity using the large amount of coal gangue has become the main option. The construction of coal gangue power plants across the province will reach 1.57 million kilowatts, accounting for about one-third of the total capacity added to power plants throughout the year. This will not only consume the coal gangue accumulated over the years but also reduce the consumption of coal resources and minimize environmental pollution. In the future, our province will gradually change its reliance on coal-based power generation. In addition to coal gangue, by-products generated during coal production and use such as coke oven gas and methane, as well as renewable energy sources like straw and wind power, will all serve as the fuel for these power plants.
