When using SW6 to calculate flanges, why do some standard flanges fail to meet the strength requirements? :)
There are hardly any standard flanges for which a calculation can be done, unless the gaskets are made very narrow and bolts made of inferior materials such as Q235A or 35. Standard equipment flanges have been used consistently over time, thanks to their extensive track record of successful use, and no changes have been made to them. The safety factor data for this flange indicates that it was 2.5 a long time ago; after the safety factor was adjusted, no changes were made since no problems arose from its use. This results in the calculation failing
Oh, now I understand! Is it better for the gasket to be narrower? I calculated a design pressure of 1.8 MPa, but even flanges rated for 4.0 MPa didn’t work – it’s really frustrating!
Standard flanges don’t require any calculations – what’s there to be frustrated about?

It is very difficult for standard flanges to meet the SW6 strength requirements; their design is determined based on long-term practical experience.
Since standard flanges have grade specifications, isn’t it unnecessary to calculate them?
