Tsinghua University establishes a Low-Carbon Energy Laboratory

According to a report by Xinhua News Agency on January 14, the Low-Carbon Energy Laboratory at Tsinghua University was established recently. The laboratory will focus on researching key scientific issues, cutting-edge technical challenges, development strategies, and technological approaches related to energy and energy conservation in China in the future. It aims to achieve significant technological integration and product demonstrations through cooperation with enterprises. 　　According to officials from Tsinghua University, the Low-Carbon Energy Laboratory will play a role in coordinating and guiding scientific research in the field of energy across the university, as well as the development of key research facilities in this area. Gu Binglin, president of Tsinghua University, said that the establishment of this laboratory is an important step taken by Tsinghua to address **strategic needs and the frontiers of world science and technology, and to contribute to China and the world in tackling energy shortages and improving the global climate environment. The school will fully support the development of the laboratory into a cross-disciplinary research center with significant influence both domestically and internationally. 　　It is reported that Tsinghua University has a solid foundation in energy-related fields and has established a number of energy research centers. The university currently has over 10 key disciplines related to energy, which have ranked among the top in various national discipline evaluations and assessments. Research in areas such as clean coal power generation, advanced nuclear energy technologies, building energy efficiency, biomass energy, alternative fuels for vehicles, advanced power transmission and grid security, and energy development strategies is at the leading level or among the forefront in China. The university has a research team comprising over 500 researchers with senior academic titles and more than a thousand postgraduate students, which undertakes a large number of projects under the \"973 Program\" and \"863 Program\", major and key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, significant scientific and technological cooperation projects with enterprises, as well as overseas cooperation projects.
