The compressor you are referring to must be a reciprocating compressor. For single-acting cylinders, there are two inlets and two outlets on the same cylinder. There are also those that go in three times and out three times. That one has a relatively large cylinder.
We used to use two-stage reciprocating compressors with two columns, but now we have switched to a double-inlet double-outlet design based on that. I don’t understand what that means!
As the scale of the equipment increases and the processing capacity of compressors grows, some centrifugal compressors also employ dual inlet pipes. (This applies to things such as the pyrolysis gas compressors in large-scale pyrolysis units); it is related to various factors including compressor manufacturing.
