Spray drying is a device used in the catalyst industry for producing catalysts; how can we operate spray drying to achieve uniform particle sizes of the products?
Recently, we also need to buy a spray dryer; we’re paying close attention to that as well!
The particle size of centrifugal spraying is uniform. For the catalyst industry, corrosion and wear issues also need to be considered. Pressure spray consumables are expensive. I just went on a business trip there recently for an inspection.

How to operate spray drying to achieve uniform product particle size? Answer: 1. The nozzle apertures must be identical; there should be no differences. Replace it in a timely manner to prevent the nozzle aperture from increasing due to wear or decreasing due to blockage. 2. The spray pressure remains within a very narrow range of fluctuations. 3. It is required that the high-pressure pump or other equipment can operate for extended periods, thereby reducing pressure fluctuations caused by startups and shutdowns. 4. The spray angle of the nozzles should also be consistent.

Spray drying is divided into two types: pressure spray and centrifugal spray. In terms of appearance, the pressure spray tower is slender, while the centrifugal spray tower is short and thick. Pressure spray nozzles wear out relatively quickly, with significant variations in particle size; the pressure ranges from 3 to 20 MPa. There are three types of flow arrangements: co-current, counter-current, and mixed-flow. Centrifugal spraying uses a high-speed rotating atomizer (12,000–29,700 rpm) to atomize the slurry, followed by drying. There are open and closed types. A high inlet air temperature places high demands on the atomizer. The closed system is used for drying slurries of organic solvents, such as alcohol and propanol. It depends on whether your material will precipitate and stick to the nozzle; uneven heating of the spray tower or a tilted nozzle can also lead to uneven particle distribution, so it’s important to keep summarizing experiences from production.
