Excuse me, in our facility, the valve element of the drain valve located after the heat exchanger temperature control valve is often damaged due to water hammer. Is there any solution? Previously, float-type ones were used; now bellows-type ones are used – they’re pretty much the same, and low-pressure saturated steam is utilized.
Whether it is a diaphragm type or a float type, there is a sealed chamber, and water accumulation must be eliminated first. If the water accumulation problem cannot be resolved, you can consider the Armstrong inverted bucket trap recommended by the poster. The bucket in an inverted bucket trap is open; due to the absence of a sealed chamber, its resistance to water hammer is much greater than that of float valves and diaphragms (which are a type of thermostatic device). However, the selection is crucial. The table provided by the original poster can only be used for reference; it is not applicable when making a selection.
