Shanxi issues 4 local standards for methanol fuel used in vehicles

On December 24, 2007, the series of local standards for methanol fuel for vehicles in Shanxi Province passed the expert review organized by the provincial quality supervision bureau, and will be officially implemented in mid-January next year. This series of standards consists of four items: \"M5 and M15 Methanol-Gasoline for Vehicles,\" \"Denatured Fuel Methanol,\" \"M85 and M100 Methanol Fuels for Vehicles,\" and \"Components for Methanol-Gasoline in Vehicles.\" The standard for \"Components for Methanol-Gasoline in Vehicles\" has not been established abroad, and it is being formulated for the first time in China. As a base for new energy and industry, Shanxi Province has unique conditions and advantages for producing coal-based methanol; by the end of the 11th Five-Year Plan period, the planned production capacity of coal-based methanol in the province was to reach 7 million tons. 　　At present, the standard system proposal for methanol as a vehicle fuel and methanol-powered vehicles put forward by Shanxi Province includes 17 local standards across 5 categories, such as standards for methanol fuel, standards for distribution systems, standards for methanol-powered vehicles and engines, emission standards, and safety standards, covering all aspects of the methanol industrialization process.
