The annual SolidWorks Global User Conference was held from January 20 to 23, 2008, in San Diego, a coastal city in southern California on the U.S. West Coast. More than 4,700 attendees from around the world, over 100 media outlets, and hundreds of professional manufacturers in the field of information technology attended this event. As per annual tradition, the SolidWorks development team previews the latest features of SolidWorks 2009. This preview took a unique form: four SolidWorks product experts from SolidWorks Company acted as doctors, prescribing solutions – namely the new features of SolidWorks 2009 – for the engineers shown in the video who were frustrated by the poor performance of CAD software. The main objectives of SolidWorks 2009’s development were threefold: to allow designers to focus on design rather than on CAD (Focus on design, not CAD) ； Design Better Products ； Meet the continuously expanding needs and expectations of users (Scale with user needs and demands). SolidWorks 2009 was primarily improved in the following areas: opening large assembly model files was significantly enhanced ； The assembly model shows a significant increase in speed, with time savings of up to 65% possible ； The sketch design and editing functions have been simplified, with negative dimensions supported to facilitate parametric design ； The operations for sheet metal part design have been further simplified ； Provides more powerful editing capabilities for plastic parts ； Facilitate the generation of assembly schedules ； The user interface is more pleasant ； Significant improvements have been made to the design of plug and cable connectors used in industries such as computing ； The “Sensor” function has been introduced, allowing users to set parameters for size and weight, ensuring that these conditions are met during the shaping process.
