Natural gas volume required to produce 80,000 tons of acetylene

After more than 30 years of development, especially since joining Sinopec Group, Chuanwei Factory has achieved rapid growth. It is now the largest integrated enterprise in China that uses natural gas as the main raw material to produce chemical and fiber products, and it is also the only natural gas-based chemical enterprise under Sinopec Group. The production capacity of the plant’s main units is 60,000 tons per year of acetylene, 350,000 tons of methanol, 200,000 tons of vinyl acetate, 60,000 tons of polyvinyl alcohol, 50,000 tons of formaldehyde, 30,000 tons of vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer emulsion, and 20,000 tons of vinylon. The joint venture factory produces 350,000 tons of acetic acid and 80,000 tons of acetates. These main products enjoy a good reputation in both the international and domestic markets. By the end of 2006, the total assets of the enterprise amounted to 3.637 billion yuan, with a debt-to-asset ratio of 17.99%. The main factory currently has 3,500 employees on duty. The factory has successively received honors such as the \"National May 1st Labor Medal,\" \"National Quality and Efficiency Enterprise,\" and \"National Outstanding Enterprise in Ideological Work.\" It has also ranked among the top 50 industrial enterprises in Chongqing for many consecutive years. During the 11th Five-Year Plan period, facilities with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of acetylene, 300,000 tons of vinyl acetate, 100,000 tons of polyvinyl alcohol, and 800,000 tons of methanol were to be built. The production capacity of Chuanwei Plant is 60,000 tons of acetylene and 350,000 tons of methanol per year. The designed capacity of the acetylene production facility is 67,500 tons per year; however, due to shortages in natural gas supply, the actual output remains around 60,000 tons per year. The methanol production capacity is 350,000 tons per year, and this includes one natural gas-based methanol production unit as well as two units that utilize acetylene exhaust gas for methanol production.
