This is an inevitable trend. In an era of energy scarcity, leveraging advantages in energy resources and geographical location to develop industries suitable for the region can significantly boost Guizhou’s economy. The key is not to sacrifice the ecological environment, as that would prove costly in the long run.

It has unique advantages, but capital is required. The environment must be protected. Guizhou should stop selling electricity – it’s not worthwhile; there is little industrial synergy and the added value is low.

Guizhou’s coal and water resources are its advantages for development, but transportation is its weakness. If large-scale coal chemical industries are developed, raw material issues need not be a concern; however, product sales do require consideration. If all are transported by road, the cost will be higher. When using rail transport, resolving the issue of freight cars is key. Environmental protection issues are also a challenge in environmental impact assessment. Care about environmental protection, right? But don’t put environmental protection in opposition to development. Development is of paramount importance; if we treat environmental protection as a constraint on development, it’s better to return to primitive society. Development comes at a certain cost – the environment was better in the 60s and 70s than it is now. Would you want to live in those times? The environment in the Daba Mountains is better – no traffic, no electricity, just an oasis. Would you like to stay there? Only with a strong national power can there be a better environment. In the world, wherever there is a good environment, it is always in developed countries; don’t become deluded just because you have some level of development!

As is well known, Guizhou has advantages in terms of natural resources. In my opinion, it is possible to develop the coal chemical industry there. The reasons for this are as follows: 1. Market factors – Energy is a major and long-term issue at present, and it has become necessary to consider the efficient use of coal. 2. Geographical location and transportation conditions are constantly changing due to the development of the western region; nowadays, it is no problem to transport goods by rail or road from the southwest to other parts of the country, and railway networks are continuing to expand. 3. The technological processes involved are mature – Technologies for producing basic chemical raw materials from coal gasification, coalbed methane, coke oven gas, etc., have already been developed and refined in China. To be honest, these three advantages can also be seen as disadvantages, as the pace of development in these areas will directly affect the growth of this industry. At the same time, environmental protection considerations must always be taken into account in such projects, which raises the issue of funding. Developing coal chemical industry in Guizhou is a good thing for the local area, but as those who commented above said, first of all, the environment must be protected; it shouldn’t turn into a barren and unsightly place； 2 is that with the construction of the Southwest Corridor, traffic problems are expected to be resolved ； 3. I’m from Guizhou. As for the development of coal chemical industry there, it seems necessary to conduct a detailed analysis of each specific project. There are several factors to take into consideration: First is the issue of resources. The conditions related to the burial depth of coal seams and their extraction in Guizhou are much more complex compared to those in Inner Mongolia and Shanxi. There is a lot of groundwater, which makes extraction more difficult and increases the cost of coal. In many areas, the price of coal ranges from 300 to 400 yuan per ton, which is roughly the same as the price of coal from Inner Mongolia and Shanxi when it’s transported to Qinhuangdao. Furthermore, many types of coal ash in Guizhou have a high melting point; for example, the coal ash used as raw material by Tongzi Jinchili Chemical has a melting point of nearly 1500 degrees, which imposes high demands on the gasification process. Next is the transportation issue; travel in mountainous areas is very difficult, even highways don’t help. The current Guizhou-Zunyi and Chongqing-Zunyi highways have only 2 lanes in each direction, which would be considered high-grade roads in other places, and they feature numerous bridges and tunnels. The first problem this raises is the transportation of large-scale equipment; if such equipment cannot be transported, it will greatly limit scaling up or increase costs (if manufacturing on-site). Finally, there is the issue of the environment: the ecological environments in karst areas are very fragile, and once the soil and water are damaged, it is difficult to restore them. Moreover, the Chishui River basin in northern Guizhou is an important area for soil and water conservation in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The excellent water quality here has also enabled the production of many famous wines such as Moutai and other brands; damaging the environment in order to develop heavy industry would likely prove to be a loss greater than the gains ； As for the Liupanshui area, I’m not very familiar with the specifics, but there is already a significant amount of steel and coking production there… In any case, although there are coal and water resources available, I think caution and careful analysis are necessary before pursuing large-scale coal chemical projects.

Sacrifices still have to be made; at present, sacrificing some minor interests in order to grow stronger is necessary in order to achieve greater benefits and a better environment in the future!

Resources in Guizhou are not a problem, and the policies there are relatively lenient. The economy in this region is relatively underdeveloped, which is actually an advantage from an overall perspective.
