On the 29th, the production unit for manufacturing 210,000 tons of dimethyl ether per year at Shenhua Ningmei Group was successfully commissioned for the first time. This marks Shenhua Ningxia Coal Group’s leadership in China in terms of having the capability and infrastructure to produce dimethyl ether from coal as a raw material, laying a solid foundation for the coal chemical projects under construction or planned for development in the Ningdong area. The production facility with an annual capacity of 210,000 tons of dimethyl ether began construction on September 10, 2006. It is a supporting project for the methanol production project with an annual capacity of 250,000 tons, and it is also one of the key projects planned for the Ningdong Energy and Chemical Industry Base. The project utilizes Texaco’s full waste-heat recovery process, which is currently the most advanced energy-saving technology in the world. This unit also has the highest design capacity among industrial units for methanol synthesis and distillation, as well as dimethyl ether synthesis and distillation, both domestically and internationally. It is understood that since trial production began on December 24, the production process has been operating normally, and all the products produced meet the standards for top-quality goods.
This project utilizes Japanese Toyo dimethyl ether technology, with the Second Chemical Industry Design Institute responsible for the detailed design. It uses high-purity methanol as its raw material, and it is currently the largest-scale facility of its kind in China.
The dimethyl ether production facility associated with 250,000 tons of methanol will not be 210,000 tons; rather, 180,000 tons of dimethyl ether would be more appropriate.
