Personally, I think it’s better to use the biochemical sludge method for treatment, especially the anaerobic approach, as methanol is an organic substance that is easily degradable and has good biodegradability. Moreover, the pre-existing oxygen-deficient condition enhances the degradation of COD. In many systems, a certain amount of methanol is added at the initial stage of the biochemical sludge process in order to cultivate and condition the microbial community.
